How to Resolve “Your PC Device needs to be repaired” Error in Windows 10

You would have shut down your system normally previous night. The next morning, you switch on the system only to find a blue screen. The Operating system doesn’t load as well. You are left wondering how could this happen and what to do in order to resolve this issue?

Well, the blue screen error is accompanied by the message “Your PC device needs to be repaired”. Blue screen error (also known as stop error) occurs if a problem causes your PC to shut down or restart unexpectedly or due to some Windows driver conflict. The error codes you might see with this problem are: 0xc0000098, 0xc000000f, 0xc0000034, 0xc0000225, 0xc000014C, 0XC0000428, etc.,

  • Run Startup Repair.
  • Command Prompt.
  • System Restore.
  • Reinstall your Operating system.

Note: Have a bootable USB drive ready before trying these methods.

  • Run Startup Repair
  • Press Power button to forcefully shut down your computer.
  • Insert your Windows 10 bootable USB drive into the USB port of your computer. Now start your computer with the Power button.
  • The computer boots up from the USB drive and you can see the Windows setup screen. Select language, currency, keyboard and click on Next.
  • Now click on Repair your computer
  • Click on Troubleshoot.
  • Now click on Advanced Options -> Startup Repair.
  • The Startup repair diagnoses and fixes problems on your computer.

After the completion of repair process, restart your computer and check if it is functioning normally.

  • Command Prompt
  • Boot your system using the bootable USB drive -> Click on Next -> Repair your computer -> Troubleshoot – > Advanced Options.
  • Now click on Command Prompt.
  • In the Command Prompt window, type sfc/scannow and hit enter.

You can fix your boot record files in the Command Prompt window using the following commands. Hit enter after typing these commands:

  • bootrec/fixmbr
  • bootrec/fixboot
  • bootrec/rebuidbcd

(C) System Restore

This option is used to backup your system to a point when it was working normally.

  • Boot your system using the bootable USB drive -> Click on Next -> Repair your computer -> Troubleshoot – > Advanced Options.
  • Now click on System Restore.
  • Just follow all the on-screen instructions.
  • Reinstall your Operating system

If none of the above methods are working, reinstall your Operating system.

  • Boot your system using Bootable USB device -> Click on Next -> Install Now.
  • Just follow on-screen instructions to setup Windows 10 on your system.
