How to Boot into macOS Recovery Mode without a Recovery Partition

Unable to boot Mac even into macOS Recovery mode? Quite a frustrating situation to be in, right? Sometimes, Apple repair tools don’t boot when you need them the most. You might have a corrupt recovery partition, or you would want to replace the hard drive. So when the repair tools don’t boot, it becomes difficult to install macOS and even access other utilities.

Mac Recovery

When there is no partition to boot into macOS Recovery mode, then macOS Internet Recovery is an alternate option which you can try out. Follow the steps listed below:

  • The first step is to shut down Mac system. Next turn it back on by holding the Option + Command + R keys.
  • You will be asked to connect to a Wi-Fi network, as the macOS partition is not available to get the password
  • Once the process is complete, you can see the version of macOS Recovery tools that come with your Mac
  • Now you can restore Mac from the Time Machine backup
  • Reinstall macOS now (you can install only the version that comes with your Mac through Internet Recovery)
  • You can browse the web to look up to solutions for the problem you are facing
  • Next, you can access Disk Utility which allows you to take control of the hard drive

There are many other macOS Recovery tools available, which includes the Network diagnostics and Terminal. So there you go; hope you are able to boot macOS. Well, macOS Internet Recovery is similar to internal recovery mode. The only difference is that if you try to install macOS, you can only install the version which came with your Mac, and not the latest version. But then you don’t have to worry about it because the recent versions of macOS are free, so this is not a big problem.

The most important thing here is that you need to backup data before installing macOS. If files get erased during or after macOS installation, then you lose a large amount of important data. Still, you don’t need to fret about it because you can easily recover data after reinstalling Mac OS X with the help of Mac Data Recovery software. The tool even recovers macOS data after the hard drive failure, crash, volume corruption, and other data loss scenarios.
